My books are printed by Lightning Source Print-on-Demand, which distributes via independent bookstores as well as online.

Amazon owns a competing print-on-demand company which distributes only via Amazon.

In an effort to force authors to use its own print-on-demand services, Amazon stopped selling titles from other print-on-demand vendors in January 2008 (link to Washington Post story).

Small publishers are now forced to choose between selling their books only at Amazon or everywhere but Amazon.

Since I like independent bookstores and dislike bullies, I have chosen the second option.
